Immunizations

CHANGES EFFECTIVE DECEMBER 1, 2025

The Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP), while extensive in coverage, does not cover all physician services.  This includes the administration of various immunizations that are not part of the publicly funded immunization schedule for Ontario.

We have been administering these immunizations free of cost to patients.  In an effort to stay consistent with pricing and practices across the province, effective December 1, 2025, immunizations outside of the OHIP schedule will be billed an administration fee of $35.  A list of these immunizations are to the right.  Please note, these immunizations all require a prescription from your physician.  Please review the Exceptions below as some immunizations are covered under OHIP for certain populations.

IMPORTANT EXCEPTIONS

  • Shingrix is covered by OHIP for those aged 65-70, who have not previously received a publicly funded shingles vaccine.

  • Prevnar 20 is covered by OHIP for those aged 65+ or younger patients with specific co-morbidities.

  • RSV is covered for those aged 75+, children born on or after April 1st, 2025 and are less than 8 months of age, women who are 32-36 weeks pregnant, and children up to 24 months of age who are at a greater risk due to their health status.

  • Rabies vaccines are covered by OHIP in the event of exposure.

  • Hepatitis B, Meningococcal and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) immunizations are administered in grades 7 and 8 via Public Health school-run clinics.

  • Patients receiving catch-up vaccinations for grades 7 and 8, who choose not to attend the Public Health catch-up clinics, will also be subject to the administration fee.

  • For information on Public Health catch up clinics please visit THIS link.

  • Administration of allergy shots is covered by OHIP.  For more information on allergy shots please see below.

Patients missing these vaccines can get the immunizations administered at Community Vaccination Clinics run by Ottawa Public Health. Please visit the link below for more information on these Community Vaccination Clinics and to schedule an appointment for the needed immunizations.
